SCOPE

The primary role is to provide technical product support to the Smoothwall sales team and channel partners. This will include: answering product and deployment questions, suggesting solutions for customers, accompanying sales staff on site visits, and managing ongoing deployments. As part of the sales process, the role also involves delivery of demonstrations over the web as well as training, and assisting others in doing so. The role will also involve taking an active part in the development of Smoothwall’s web categorisation rules.

This position will be based in the Leeds office, although travel is an integral part of the role. Site visits will normally be UK “day trips” but may involve longer periods out of the office and foreign travel from time to time.

The successful applicant will join a team of technical people with a variety of specialisms, including other pre-sales support staff, and the local IT team. With a wide range of knowledge, skills and experience in the existing team, this is a job where you learn something new every day.

JOB TASKS

● Accompany members of the sales team on customer site visits

● Provide product knowledge support to Sales team

● Demonstrate Smoothwall software both via web demo and via presentations given at customer sites

● Explain web filtering or firewall concepts to users inside and outside the organisation

● Install Smoothwall software at customer sites

● Assist blocklist team with new filtering rules and categorisation

● Support and advise potential customers

● Assist sales team in preparing tender documentation

● Work with technical support to hand-over newly acquired clients

● Tweak, alter and work-around existing systems in order to satisfy customer requirements

● Provide feedback to the Product Management Group, and suggest improvements where possible

● Deliver training to staff, customers and resellers where required

● Attend trade shows, assisting with local IT and product demos when needed

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential

● Experience of managing Microsoft Windows networks

● Ability to learn new skills and adapt to new systems quickly

● Confident and professional telephone manner

● Excellent written & verbal communication skills

● Full UK driving licence

● Smart, presentable and customer friendly appearance

Desirable

● Experience of commercial web filtering software

● Experience of firewall or email filtering products

● Experience with Linux operating systems

● Experience of scripting languages, eg Perl and bash

● Experience of virtualisation technologies

● Experience of resilient/redundant systems and infrastructure deployments

● Basic understanding of development processes

● Has held helpdesk or customer facing role

Qualifications

Any relevant, such as MCSE, CCNA. We are looking for the right person, not the right paper.
